Culross, Fife, Scotland
By Bindiya Apr 13, 2010

(This is a part of the 'Beautiful Places I Fell in Love With' article series.)
Culross
A deserving candidate for my series 'Beautiful places that I fell in love with', this.

Culross (pronounced "Coo-ros", surprising, right!)is a small historical town in Fife, Scotland. We were touring the area to visit places of tourist and historical interest and thankfully, this place was on our list, though perhaps it is not a usual on tourist lists. The town is actually an interesting little coastal village. What struck me the most as we entered the town was the nice green patch complete with swing sets and all, right by the sea. Perhaps there are more such places, but I have never seen such a beautiful setting for kids to play in. My toddler had the time of his life, and me too, clicking away to glory.

The town has an interesting legend about how it was founded as mentioned in Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culross). It has a small palace in the center, which looks painted and quite different from the stone castles that I had become accustomed to see in Scotland. We took a walking tour of the town, arranged by the National Trust of Scotland, which takes care of the historic buildings in Scotland. We saw the Town House, the Abbey and cobbled streets passing through small houses on either side. It felt we had stepped back into history. They say this place is a living museum and they are right! Frankly, I feel this is true of many towns and cities in Scotland. It is indeed a beautiful and historical country.

If you are in this part of Scotland and would like to spend some time relaxing by the sea alongwith a nice historic angle to the trip, this is the place for you.
